steptext dance project and young artists present “Liquid Gold,” a dance project by and with young dance enthusiasts, directed by Marion Amschwand. The program also includes “Water Bodies,” a choreography by young adults from the Performance LAB, along with an excerpt from the solo “Sommeil Ambulant” by guest scholar Guy Kah.
In the dance project “Liquid Gold,” children and teenagers explore the rights of our planet and the life-sustaining element of water through dance. Too little or too much, drought or heavy rain—without water, there is no life. But how can we share the planet’s water equitably with all life forms? Does a body of water have rights too? How does water feel as dance? How does a dry riverbed speak? How much strength does a thirsty body have?
Accompanied by the experienced dancer, dance educator, and choreographer Marion Amschwand, as well as professional dancers from Of Curious Nature, the children and young people embody the role of liquid gold as both an element and a habitat. Here, diverse dance styles and choreographies flow together, like the many rivers that feed the ocean. The piece alternates between scenic embodiments and dance symbols, blending playfulness with reflection. “Liquid Gold” appeals not only to the mind but especially to the heart, as empathy and solidarity are urgently needed to inspire change.
The Performance LAB also brings “Water Bodies” to the stage—a dance exploration of water as a living, flowing resource and as a symbol for shifting states. Through a collective process without artistic direction, dancers Hanna Frank, Franziska Neidhart, Lotte Hebach, and Mara Bosseler develop movements that critically examine power and control relationships and blur the boundaries between individual and community. The piece explores the fragile balance of resources, with water as a metaphor for the inseparable interconnectedness of living beings and nature, opening a space between reality and utopia.
On Saturday and Sunday, the event begins with a movement introduction for the young audience. All visitors aged 13 and older are warmly invited to watch the solo “Sommeil Ambulant (Sleepwalking)” by the Ivorian dancer and guest scholar Guy Kah. Guy Kah is observing and participating as a guest artist for three months at the invitation of the Goethe Institute with steptext dance project and Of Curious Nature.
