"Waves of connection – moving bodies of water"

We are pleased to announce the new workshop series "Waves of Connection - Moving Bodies of Water"! The project invites you to explore the deep connection between humans and the element of water in all its facets. In view of the current challenges of climate change and the growing importance of water as a resource, we want to raise awareness of appreciation and water protection by intensively engaging with the source of all life with our bodies and in the community.

Project goal: At a time when climate change and resource conservation are omnipresent issues, many of us have lost touch with nature and our environment through everyday life. This series of workshops aims to use the body to develop empathy for these often abstract topics and to restore an emotional connection.

What awaits you: The workshops deal with various aspects of our connection to water - from physical sensations to dance expression. There are interactive workshops with input on questions such as what water and feminism have to do with each other or the importance of water in a global context. The focus of this project is on workshops in which we experience the topic practically through movement and dance. By integrating different dance styles, we encourage participants to connect with the element of water, develop a deeper understanding of its meaning and explore a common "body of water".

Project process: The workshops are led by LAB*, which invites local artists and experts from the young cultural scene to offer participants input on the topic.

*The Performance Laboratory (LAB) is a research space created by young adults for exchange, input and mutual guidance. We deal with contemporary dance, performance and current social issues, climate-related topics and the associated group dynamic processes. In 2022, we took the initiative to contact Augusto Jaramillo Pineda, head of the young artists, steptext dance eV, due to a lack of offers, and have been cooperating since then.

The artists and experts have extensive knowledge in the areas of water as a resource in political contexts, sustainable use of water and dance art research. Participation is limited to 20 people per workshop to enable an intensive and individual experience. The workshops are open to anyone interested - no previous knowledge is required. Young people in particular who would like to approach the topic using an alternative approach are very welcome. You can attend one or more workshops, depending on your interests.

The workshops last a total of 3 hours. After an inspiring 90-minute input from the invited artists and experts, the LAB offers space for exchange, reflection and further exploration with movement.

All events are free of charge, supported by the Soziokultur Fund and steptext dance project and will take place in German and partly in English.
